Arsenal reportedly look set to miss out on another transfer target as this frustrating summer continues, with Ousmane Diomande looking set for Nottingham Forest.

The Sporting Lisbon centre-back has long been regarded as a top young talent, and we were reliably informed that the Gunners asked about the 22-year-old when they met the Portuguese giants in the Champions League last season.

Still, now Fabrizio Romano has reported on Forest being in advanced talks over a deal to sign Diomande.

“Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Ousmane Diomandé from Sporting,” Romano posted on X.

“Negotiations underway between clubs and with the centre back’s camp, #NFFC are on it to get the agreement done.”

Arsenal’s frustrating summer continues with Diomande blow

Arsenal might not have made Diomande an absolute top priority for this summer, but he’s clearly someone they had an appreciation for, and he could have been a useful addition given that William Saliba is reported to be facing a lengthy spell out injured.

The Times have reported on Saliba requiring surgery, with the Frenchman likely to miss the start of the season, while Arsenal are now expected to intensify their centre-back search.

It seems crazy that a top young talent like Diomande is now heading to Forest instead, but this has been the theme of Arsenal’s summer so far.

The Premier League champions took too long on the Morgan Rogers deal, and he’s ended up moving to Chelsea instead, while Manchester City beat them to Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga despite them looking favourites for some time.

If Diomande ends up being a hit at the City Ground, his value is only going to soar and that’ll make it harder for Arsenal and other top clubs to sign him in the future.
