Antoine Griezmann will join Orlando City in July after completing the season with Atlético Madrid, the club said in a statement on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old forward has signed a contract running through the 2027-28 campaign, with an option for 2028-29.

His long-held ambition to play in Major League Soccer will be realised in the United States, and his arrival will coincide with the World Cup there from 11 June to 19 July. France, whom he left at the end of summer 2024, will attempt to add a third star.

Griezmann departs Atlético as a modern great, the club’s record scorer with 211 goals across a decade. This season he accepted a reduced starting role under Diego Simeone and has 13 goals and 4 assists from 43 appearances in all competitions.

Before moving, he still targets silverware with Atlético, facing Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals on 8 and 15 April, then the Copa del Rey final against his first club Real Sociedad on 18 April.

MLS links had intensified for months and a switch was close in recent weeks, but he chose to finish the campaign in Madrid. Orlando, with one win and four defeats so far this season, are awaiting his arrival.
