Antonio Conte has left his role as Napoli manager, with the 56-year-old departing the club after two seasons in charge. The announcement was made on Monday via Napoli’s official social media channels.
His exit comes shortly after Napoli’s 1-0 win over Udinese on the final day of Serie A, bringing an end to the campaign and Conte’s spell in charge. Speaking after the match, the Italian was open about his decision, explaining that he felt the project had reached its natural conclusion.
“A month ago I called the president asking for nothing, and he didn’t tell me anything either. I told him I felt our project was coming to an end and that there had been no change in plans,” Conte said. “I made this decision because I failed at one thing in Naples: I couldn’t bring unity to the environment, and it’s difficult to compete without that.”
Conte is now available on the market once again, adding another big name to the list of high-profile managers without a club. His career has already taken him to Juventus, Inter Milan, Tottenham and the Italian national team between 2015 and 2016.
During his time at Napoli, he delivered two trophies - the Serie A title and the Supercoppa Italiana - and ended his spell with 52 wins from 91 matches.
