Since his January loan move from Manchester United to Real Betis, Antony has rediscovered his best form, proving why United initially invested heavily in him. In just 11 appearances, the Brazilian winger has contributed four goals and four assists, reminding everyone of the talent that made him such a sought-after player.
However, his loan agreement with Betis does not include a purchase option, meaning he is expected to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season. Despite this, Antony has made it clear that he is enjoying life in Spain and is not particularly eager to return to England.
United paid a hefty £86.3 million for Antony, but he has struggled to make a lasting impact at the club. With Manchester United actively seeking new attacking options, his chances of securing a regular place in the starting lineup appear slim.
In a recent interview with DAZN, Antony reflected on his journey and current happiness at Betis:
"If they paid that kind of money for you, it’s because you have talent and quality. Wherever I go, I’ll always speak highly of United. I’m grateful to the club and to Erik ten Hag for what we achieved together and for everything I’ve learned. I had tough moments there, but also some great ones. It shaped me for where I am today, enjoying football again. My mind is here, and I’m very happy."
Antony also emphasized how much he enjoys the lifestyle in Spain:
"Every day, I feel that coming here was the best decision I could have made. I love the city, the club, and everything about it. The weather, the food, and the people remind me of Brazil. That kind of environment is important for me."
With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Antony needs consistent playing time in a system that suits his style. La Liga offers a more forgiving environment compared to the intense scrutiny of the Premier League, allowing him to thrive away from the relentless English media spotlight.
At Betis, Antony has the opportunity to be a key player and help the team compete at a high level. With United potentially bringing in new wingers, his prospects of regular minutes in Manchester remain uncertain. A permanent transfer to Real Betis could be the best step for his career, ensuring stability and consistent performances leading up to the World Cup.
