Anwar El Ghazi wins unfair dismissal case against Mainz | OneFootball

Anwar El Ghazi has won his unfair dismissal case against Mainz after a German labour court rejected the Bundesliga club's latest attempt to challenge the ruling.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the decision leaves the earlier judgement legally binding, following a July 2024 award of more than 1.5 million euros to the winger.

El Ghazi was with Mainz in 2023 and was suspended after he shared a post using the phrase "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" on social media.

The club later offered a return if he distanced himself from the comments, he refused and his contract was terminated with immediate effect.

The court found freedom of expression outweighed the club's interests, and after the verdict El Ghazi used X to call on Mainz to pay the remainder of his contract.

He scored 26 goals in 119 games and now plays in Qatar.
