Inter and Milan’s attempts to purchase the San Siro land has hit another problem, as an appeal is lodged to block the sale.

The two clubs have been fighting for a decade to get a new stadium built in what is effectively now the car park of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, after which they can tear down the existing structure and repurpose it.

After a series of proposed projects were considered and rejected by the local authorities, they went back to Plan A, with the council seemingly in favour of the sale.

However, there are still people trying to block it, and today the Italian equivalent of the Green Party lodged an appeal to the TAR tribunal.

“The two American companies expressed the desire to balance their books with a new stadium and real estate work around it. And their desire is coming true,” protested Verdi chief Carlo Monguzzi.

“Setting up a conference of preliminary services while the public tender process is still open is fairytale land stuff.

“We heard from businessman Claudio Trotta that he cannot participate in the public tender because of the ridiculously short timeframe given.

“Public debate, even when rigged, still said the contrary to what the council is writing in its statements. A referendum was denied by the council. We will continue our mobilisation against this.”

Trotta represents Barley Arts and claimed it was impossible to put forward a proposal in the public tender process because there was no time to match the project already prepared by Inter and Milan, making it therefore a foregone conclusion and unfair.
