Argentina topped the South American World Cup qualifying table with 38 points after 18 matches, ahead of Ecuador on 29 and Colombia. Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay followed, then Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru and Chile.

According to Globo.com, Ecuador were docked 3 points over the Byron Castillo false-document case from the 2022 qualifiers.

On the final matchday, Ecuador beat Argentina 1-0 in Guayaquil. Paraguay won 1-0 in Lima against Peru, and Colombia won 6-3 away to Venezuela. Bolivia defeated Brazil 1-0 in El Alto, while Chile and Uruguay drew 0-0 in Santiago.

Argentina's record read 12 wins, two draws and four defeats, with 31 scored and 10 conceded. Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay each finished on 28 points.

Messi led the scoring with eight goals. Luis Díaz and Miguelito had seven, Enner Valencia and Rondón six, with Raphinha and Darwin Núñez on five. A group on four included Lautaro Martínez, Julián Álvarez, Luis Suárez and Sanabria.
