Fans in Argentina plan to sing for Lionel Messi on Wednesday, marking his 39th birthday under the #CumpleLeo banner, with renditions set for 10:00 and 22:00 in Argentina.

According to L'Équipe, the social media driven idea invites supporters to sing happy birthday to him. The hashtag, a contraction of 'cumpleanno' and Leo, has been circulating widely.

The push was launched by presenter Rodolfo Barili, one of Argentina’s best known hosts. He urged people to join in at school, at work or on the bus, wherever they are, to honour the man now top scorer in World Cup history.

The call also references health problems faced by Messi’s father, with Barili encouraging a show of support at this time.

On the pitch, Messi is currently the leading scorer at the 2026 World Cup, with five goals in two matches.

Argentina are already through to the last 16 and will play their final group game against Jordan on Saturday night into Sunday.
