Nico Paz sparkled once again for Serie A side Como and helped them to a historic Champions League spot. But his involvement with Argentina at the FIFA World Cup is currently under some doubt.
The Spaniard press has spoken of how Emi Buendia is in the picture for a possible call-up, with uncertainty rising about the Serie A-based talent.
Sky Italia now report that the fitness issue is related to a knee and tibia injury Nico Paz picked up during Como’s league game against Hellas Verona. That is still proving to be a bit of a problem for the attacking midfielder, who didn’t play the last two league games as a result.
There is some concern about his condition in Argentina, with the country set to play their first game as part of their title defence against Algeria on June 17th. The outlet also confirm that if the 21-year-old doesn’t make it, it would indeed be Buendia who will replace him.
The World Cup comes at a crucial point in Nico Paz’s career. He is one of the best players in Serie A and the tournament would be a huge chance for him to make a mark at the global level and silence anyone who may still have doubts about his abilities.
Even Real Madrid can witness him sparkle. Their buyback option is very much active and if he makes a mark, their belief about bringing him back would only be strengthened. Not just that, it would also convince them to make him a part of their squad under Jose Mourinho.
