Inter Milan veteran Henrikh Mkhitaryan has delivered his verdict on the team’s start under Cristian Chivu.

Speaking to Cronache di Spogliatoio via FCInter1908, he assessed Inter’s performances in the first half of the season.

The Nerazzurri took a leap of faith when they appointed Cristian Chivu as Simone Inzaghi’s successor in June.

Indeed, the 45-year-old arrived at San Siro after making just 13 coaching appearances in Serie A.

However, it’s fair to admit that Chivu did a phenomenal job at Parma in the second half of last season.

Furthermore, he starred for Inter as a player, winning the famous treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010.

With Inter leading the way in Serie A at the tail-end of the calendar year, Chivu has exceeded expectations so far.

Yet, Inter’s heartbreaking Supercoppa Italiana exit cast a shadow on the team’s decent league start.

Chivu’s side will seek redemption for the Riyadh upset when they take on Atalanta on Sunday.

Mkhitaryan addressed the press ahead of Inter’s trip to Bergamo, offering his view of the team’s form.

“We got off to a decent start,” Mkihtaryan said. “I’d say we could have started even better, but we’re following our path, the one we want.

“Obviously, we’re only halfway through, so we need to finish the season.

“And at the end of the season, we can talk about our position in the standings and whether we’ve achieved our objectives or not.

“But, as you know, Inter always fights for the highest goals, which is why we do everything to win or to be near the top.

“In football, it’s normal that one day you feel mentally strong, and the next day you might feel mentally low.

“It’s normal. When you win, you feel stronger mentally than when you lose.

“After that defeat, of course, the whole team, all the Inter fans, were really feeling down because it was a huge disappointment.

“But gradually, we realized that dwelling on it wouldn’t change the future, and we couldn’t fight for our goals that way.

“Having Chivu as our coach gives us a lot of energy; as I said before, he’s changed us a bit.
