Alisson Becker was notably absent as Liverpool won 3-1 against Yokohama F. Marinos during their pre-season tour in Asia. Speaking ahead of the game, manager Arne Slot confirmed that the Brazilian international had to leave the camp to return to Brazil due to a private matter.
“He had to go back to Brazil for private reasons,” Slot told Liverpoolfc.com. “That’s far from ideal – first of all for the private reasons, second of all for him to not be there in a game like this and in pre-season it’s also not ideal if you miss out on part of the pre-season. But again, private life is more important in these matters than joining a game today.”
Slot, who guided Liverpool to their first Premier League title in four years last season, continues to show a calm and composed leadership style. His approach has been praised not only for tactical intelligence but also for human understanding, as seen in how he handled Alisson’s absence.

The Dutchman has built a strong reputation in a short time at Anfield. Supporters and players alike have responded positively to his management, especially during what has been an emotionally charged summer for the club.
Despite missing their No.1 goalkeeper, Liverpool managed to perform well against Yokohama. Goals from Florian Wirtz, Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha secured a 3-1 victory, continuing the team’s promising form ahead of the 2025-26 season.
With Alisson Becker away, Giorgi Mamardashvili is likely to take over goalkeeping duties in the FA Community Shield clash against Crystal Palace, scheduled to take place at Wembley in ten days. The Georgian has impressed in training and now has an opportunity to stake a claim for more regular minutes in the coming season.
Liverpool’s squad under Arne Slot looks sharp, hungry and united. The manager’s swift impact since replacing Jurgen Klopp in May 2024 has reignited belief among fans.
While Alisson Becker’s absence is felt both on and off the pitch, Slot’s transparent communication and sensitivity reflect a new era of leadership at Liverpool. With the Premier League title already under his belt, Slot’s second season will be closely watched as Liverpool aim to build on recent success.
