Liverpool have got their eyes on a few potential moves ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

One of the stars is a long-term target who has been on Arne Slot's mind for the last few years after the player departed his former club in favour of pastures new. Now, we might get to see them reunite.

The area of the pitch that this particular move concerns is the attacking line; with Mohamed Salah getting closer and closer to retirement - as we can visually see his overall game start to deteriorate - it might now be time to look at getting someone in to learn from him and subsequently replace him.

According to Football Insider, the player in mind is an incredibly exciting current Premier League star.

Yakuba Minteh earmarked to replace Salah

In their report, Pete O'Rourke said: "Minteh is a very exciting player, one of the most exciting players in the Premier League on his day. Obviously, there is the obvious links with Arne Slot, having worked with him in his final season in charge of Feyenoord as well.

"No surprise that maybe Liverpool are looking at him. Obviously, there's the ongoing speculation of looking for a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. Minteh obviously have Premier League experience now as well and having worked with Slot before, it's a deal that would make sense.

"He could tick a lot of boxes, but I don't think there's anything imminent on this one just yet."

Given Salah is only four months into his two season contract extension, it makes sense that Liverpool are putting some feelers out there without looking to commit to replacing the Egyptian straight away.

But a decision will need to be made as to whether Salah is sold for a transfer fee, or if he leaves as a free agent upon the expiration of his deal in 2027, and the winger's form will give the club plenty to consider before the summer comes around. His stats really aren't that bad when you consider all the noise around him, but his overall performance levels are down, while expectations of him remain high.

Minteh is just 21 years old and while he certainly does have Premier League experience, he's only in his second campaign with Brighton. His direct and high-press style down the right-hand side of the pitch makes him a really potent forward - the kind of profile that Slot could develop into excellence.

Although, the Gambian international is highly regarded by a lot of clubs, which has led the Seagulls to set a £60-70m price tag for him, which is steep given the limited amount of data we have on him.

If the Reds commit to Salah until the end of next season, then perhaps we'll have more evidence to work with before considering Minteh as a genuine candidate to replace the Egyptian, although a lot can change in 18 months, and the young star's valuation could be significantly higher by then.
