Arsenal dug deep to beat Chelsea 1-0 in the League Cup semi-final second leg at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday to progress to the final 4-2 on aggregate.

Neither side created a clear chance until the 18th minute, when Piero Hincapie’s curling effort was parried away by Robert Sanchez.

Gabriel’s long pass found Gabriel Martinelli, but Malo Gusto made a vital block to deny him a shot on goal.

Chelsea’s first shot on target was in the 42nd minute. Kepa Arrizabalaga saved Enzo Fernandez’s effort.

Martin Zubimendi floated a cross to Gabriel at the back post after 77 minutes, but Marc Cucurella was in the right place to block his header.

Cole Palmer crashed a free-kick into the wall as both sides pushed for a late goal.

Substitute Kai Havertz scored the winner in stoppage time, rounding Sanchez before finishing into an empty net.

Arsenal have now reached the League Cup final for the first time since the 2017/18 season, when they lost to Manchester City.

The Gunners could face the Cityzens again if they overcome Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday in the other semi-final second leg.

City head into the game with a 2-0 lead.
