Arsenal 19yo gives Arteta a decision to make | OneFootball

Myles Lewis-Skelly gave Mikel Arteta a selection headache with an impressive performance for Arsenal against Olympiacos on Wednesday night.

Myles Lewis-Skelly made the starting lineup for Arsenal on Wednesday, for just his second start of the 2025/26 campaign.

The 19-year-old had been named as a substitute in the Gunners’ first seven Premier League and Champions League fixtures, only starting the League Cup game against Port Vale.

But on Wednesday night, he was given an opportunity to show what he can offer against European opposition, and he took it. Squawka report that no Arsenal player won more duels, won more free-kicks, or made more tackles than Lewis-Skelly vs Olympiacos.

Mikel Arteta was clearly impressed with what he saw of the teenager on the night.

“Very good,” Arteta said of Lewis-Skelly’s display. “I think he played a really, really good game.

“Every level, defensively and attacking, and he looked really focused, he understood really well when to take chances, when to keep the game flowing and very simple, and I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen today.”

With Riccardo Calafiori starting the season so well and Piero Hincapie joining the club this summer, Arsenal have strong options at left-back. If Hincapie had been fit, perhaps Lewis-Skelly wouldn’t even have played on Wednesday.

But with Hincapie out and Calafiori’s terrible fitness record with Arsenal, Lewis-Skelly should keep getting opportunities for the time being. If he takes them as emphatically as on Wednesday night, he’s giving Arteta a decision to make about his first-choice side.
