“It feels good. It feels like an honour,” Butler-Oyedeji said. “I’m happy to win the award and, most importantly, help my team-mates through the month of August.

“I just try to get my head down and I have good players playing the chances through to me. My focus from the start of the season has been to be a bit more productive and deadly in front of goal.

“Everyone’s on the same page. Everyone knows what they’re doing, like one vehicle, selfless and playing for the team and that shows in the results.”

Butler-Oyedeji was up against seven players in the running for the award, including Arsenal teammate Khayon Edwards.

The other six were Joshua Ajala and Lewis Orford of West Ham United, Aaron Bott and Kyle McAdam of Nottingham Forest, Jack Fletcher of Manchester United, and Kristian Sekularac of Fulham.

But Edwards was the only serious competition from the group, having scored three and assisted two goals in August.

Butler-Oyedeji went one better with six goal contributions. He provided a goal and assist in the opening game against Manchester United, then scored a brace against Wolves, before adding another goal and assist against Aston Villa.

Edwards deserves his credit too though, after he managed two goals and an assist in the United game, set up a goal in the Wolves game, and scored a penalty against Villa.

Together, the Arsenal duo have helped their team to the top of the Premier League 2 table, and Butler-Oyedeji’s award was well-earned.
