The Gunners flew out of the blocks with aggression and control, forcing Bayern deep and dictating the tempo. Their early pressure paid off in the 22nd minute through a trademark set piece.Bukayo Saka whipped in a superb corner and Jurrien Timber met it powerfully, heading past Manuel Neuer.
It was Arsenal’s 10th goal from a corner this season – the most of any side in Europe’s top five leagues – further highlighting their growing strength in dead-ball situations.
Despite the early setback, Bayern gradually settled. Their equaliser on 32 minutes came from a move of genuine quality.Joshua Kimmich delivered a pinpoint diagonal pass to Serge Gnabry, who squared the ball across goal for 17-year-old Lennart Karl to slot home from close range.
The goal was the first Arsenal had conceded in this season’s Champions League but did little to derail their momentum.
Arsenal’s response after the break was impressive, shifting the intensity back in their favour. Substitute Riccardo Calafiori made an instant impact down the flank, smashing a driven cross into the six-yard box.Noni Madueke reacted quickest, steering the ball into the net for his first goal in Arsenal colours. The Emirates erupted, recognising the significance of the moment for the England winger.
With Bayern pushing forward in search of an equaliser, Arsenal struck again.Eberechi Eze, fresh from his heroics in the north London derby, spotted Gabriel Martinelli’s run and clipped a delightful pass over the defence. Neuer charged out but misjudged the flight, allowing Martinelli to nick the ball around him and finish calmly.
The goal not only wrapped up a deserved win but also inflicted Bayern’s first defeat of the season.
This was a performance filled with conviction from Mikel Arteta’s side:
A perfect 15 points from 15 sends a clear message across Europe. The Gunners are not just competing in the Champions League – they’re beginning to look like contenders.
