In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Arsenal are set to land Illan Meslier, who is currently a free agent. It has been claimed that the Gunners are on the brink of recruiting the French custodian following his exit from Leeds United earlier this summer.
Meslier failed to make a senior appearance for Leeds last season and often found himself out of Daniel Farke’s match-day squad. However, the French talent has got a wealth of experience at the highest level as he has made 215 appearances for the Whites so far, conceding 286 goals and securing 70 clean sheets in the process across all fronts.
The 26-year-old is currently among the most experienced goalkeepers in the Premier League. Thus, the Gunners would do well to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this off-season.
Meslier is a free agent at the moment after being released by Leeds United recently. Hence, Arsenal would be able to snap him up on a free transfer this summer.

Meslier can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing at the top of his game on the field. He can use his quick reflexes to make some solid stops at the back and is a good handler of the ball as well.
Standing at 1.97m, the French sensation is a strong presence inside his penalty area and doesn’t mind coming out of his lines to clear the danger when needed. He is quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the North London club if Mikel Arteta can convince him to join on a free transfer this off-season.
We can expect Meslier to improve the quality of Arsenal’s match-day squad. He is good enough to serve as an ideal number two option for the goalkeeping position at the London club.
At 26, Meslier has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a good fit for Arteta’s needs in this transfer window. Thus, the Gunners would be wise to go all out to sign him on a free transfer this summer.
