Bukayo Saka and Dani Carvajal had to be separated as the Arsenal star walked off the pitch at half-time during Wednesday's Champions League clash at Santiago Bernabeu.

A thrilling first half in Madrid saw Thibaut Courtois save Saka's attempted Panenka penalty, before Kylian Mbappe was awarded a penalty and then saw it ruled out.

Madrid needed to score at least three times without reply to have any hope of reaching the semi-finals, and were aggressive from the first whistle as they went in search of an early boost.

But it was Arsenal who could - and should - have one ahead after Raul Asensio was judged to have fouled William Saliba. The referee pointed to the spot but then Saka weakly chipped his spot-kick into Courtois' diving body for an easy save.

Saka the focus of Madrid attentions for much of the opening 45 minutes, and David Alaba was given an early yellow card for an aggressive tackle from behind.

When the whistle below for the end of the first half, Saka was approached and followed by Carvajal - who was not part of the matchday squad - down the tunnel, grabbing him around the back of the net and leaning in as the Arsenal forward swatted him away.

What appeared to be Arsenal backrom staff nearby quickly intervened as Saka turned back towards Carvajal, and the pair were separated.
