Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has claimed that his Manchester City counterpart Gianluigi Donnarumma is the best goalkeeper in the world right now.

The Gunners star is having a great campaign with the Emirates Stadium club and is one of the reasons Mikel Arteta’s side are top of the league after 31 games, nine points ahead of the Etihad Stadium club.

Man City have a game in hand but are unlikely to catch up with Arsenal in the title race.

Pep Guardiola and his men have not been able to keep up with the Gunners, but Raya has been impressed with his opposite number at Man City.

He insists that the 27-year-old Italian and Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois are the best in the position right now.

“Donnarumma,” the Arsenal star replied on Sky Sports when asked who the best goalkeeper in the world right now is.

“Winning the Champions League and everything, and then he moved to City.

“The way he adapted himself to the Premier League because it’s not easy coming from PSG to Man City, to the Premier League that’s completely different. The way he adapted himself from the first game against Manchester United was incredible.”

Donnarumma has indeed been in fine form this term and is one of the best goalkeepers on the planet right now, but Raya has been better.

The Gunners goalie has kept 15 clean sheets in 31 league games this term, four more than the Man City man, who has made 27 league appearances.

Raya kept the most clean sheets (13) last term and in 2023-24 (16) and has been very crucial to the recent successes Arsenal have enjoyed under Arteta.

The North Londoners are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the Spaniard will be eager to help them progress and win the competition.

Replacing Aaron Ramsdale with Raya is proving to be one of the best decisions Arteta has made since becoming Arsenal boss, and it could culminate in a major silverware at the end of this season.
