Arsenal continue to pay close attention to every detail to strengthen its defence. For some time now, Mikel Arteta has been looking to secure options at the back to maintain intensity in all competitions. The Londoners know that next season may require more solidity, especially when the Premier League and Europe offer no respite.

It is no surprise that the Gunners are among the clubs interested in Evan Ndicka. The Ivorian defender has stood out since his time in Germany, and now at Roma, he is confirming that he can respond to tough opponents. The question is whether Arsenal should go for him or wait for another profile.

Arsenal Have To Pay £35 Million For Evan Ndicka

Gazzetta dello Sport, quoted by Sport Witness, has reported that Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are interested in the AS Roma defender Evan Ndicka. The Italian club bought him for free from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023, but now his value is good enough due to consistent performances for Roma.

The Serie A club need to balance their books and hence need income for it. So, Roma have decided that they want to sell their 25-year-old defender for €35. Meanwhile, Ndicka would also like to take up the challenge in the Premier League. However, the competition is fierce. Arsenal are considering him as an option to expand their defensive depth, although his role would not be undisputed, and that could slow down the operation.

Opinion:

From my perspective, Arsenal must tread carefully before making such an expensive decision. On the one hand, the 25-year-old fits well as a left-footed centre-back, with the ability to cover space and provide a clean outlet for building attacks from the back. His versatility would help Arteta rotate without losing guarantees at the back. In addition, Roma’s financial situation makes it an interesting opportunity because they know that every euro earned is pure profit.

However, spending £35 million on a player who does not have a guaranteed place could slow down other priorities. If Arsenal want to continue competing on equal terms with City or Liverpool, they must strengthen key positions with starters. That’s where Ndicka falls short: he is good, but he is not a sure starter. Perhaps it would be wiser to invest that money in a top defender or shore up other areas with greater urgency.

Even so, I wouldn’t rule out that in such an inflated market, this move could work well if the Gunners find a way to give him playing time. The key will be not to repeat the mistake of signing for the sake of signing. If Arteta sees Ndicka as a real quality replacement and not just a stopgap, then it is worth it. But if he is not going to play more than the odd game, it is better to pass on the opportunity and wait for another player who can make a difference from the first minute.
