Could we see a last-minute Jorrel Hato-to-Chelsea hijack? That’s the question Gooners are asking after fresh revelations about the Ajax starlet’s future.

Hato Agrees Terms with Chelsea

According to Fabrizio Romano, Jorrel Hato has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea. The deal now depends on whether Ajax and the Blues can strike a fee agreement, with the player reportedly determined to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

This development may sting a little, as Arsenal had long admired the Dutch defender. Even though Riccardo Calafiori is set for a big season and Myles Lewis-Skelly continues to impress, Hato was once seen as the ideal inverted full-back for Mikel Arteta’s system.

After a standout 2023-24 campaign at Ajax, Hato emerged as a serious target. But the player decided to remain in Amsterdam last summer to continue his development, prompting Arsenal to pivot towards Calafiori instead. While the Italian had a mixed debut season, his inconsistencies were largely offset by Lewis-Skelly’s rise.

Why Arsenal Moved On

Although Hato would undoubtedly strengthen Arteta’s squad, the club recently opted to sign another defensive prodigy, Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia. Like Hato, Mosquera is viewed as a long-term investment with massive upside.

That shift in direction may have played a part in Hato’s decision to choose Chelsea. Perhaps the silver lining is that Arsenal have a track record of luring top talent away from Stamford Bridge. Hato may yet harbour hopes of playing alongside his idol Jurrien Timber in red and white one day.

For now, though, he appears set for a move across London. And if that’s the case, we wish him luck, at least until the next London Derby!

What do you think, Gooners?
