Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the season with a commanding 5-0 victory over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s side dominated from start to finish in front of a jubilant home crowd, producing their first home win of the campaign in convincing fashion.

Within minutes of kick-off, summer signing Noni Madueke caused problems for the visitors, firing dangerous crosses into the box that tested Leeds goalkeeper Lucar Perri and his defence. Daniel James provided Leeds with some resistance, seeing two efforts blocked by Arsenal’s backline, but the Gunners soon imposed themselves on the game.

Timber opens the scoring

The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Jurrien Timber continued his fine goalscoring form by heading home from a corner, his second in consecutive Premier League matches. Shortly after, Martin Ødegaard, who had earlier received treatment for a shoulder problem, was forced off injured in a worrying moment for Arteta and the Arsenal faithful.

Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal’s advantage in first-half stoppage time, finishing from a tight angle after good work from Timber. The England international’s joy would not last long, however, as he later went down clutching his hamstring and was substituted, sparking fresh concerns over his fitness.

Gyökeres finds form

Just three minutes into the second half, Viktor Gyökeres opened his Premier League account in emphatic fashion, rifling home from close range. The Swedish striker, signed from Sporting Lisbon for £63.5 million, then added a second from the penalty spot in the 57th minute to cap a superb personal display.

Between his two strikes, Timber grabbed his second of the afternoon, again from a corner, showcasing Arsenal’s growing set-piece threat under Nicolas Jover. By full-time, the Gunners had stormed to a 5-0 win, moving them to the top of the Premier League table on goal difference.

Eyes already on Europe

The result reinforced Arsenal’s ambitions for the season ahead, not only in the league but also in Europe. With Champions League nights returning to the Emirates, demand for your tickets is already high among supporters eager to see Arteta’s men test themselves against Europe’s elite.

Arsenal’s performance and squad depth will be crucial, particularly with injuries to key players such as Ødegaard and Saka. For context on the scale of their challenge, BBC Sport highlighted the physical demands facing teams competing across multiple competitions this season.

Fans can also revisit our report on Martin Ødegaard’s 200th appearance to see how the captain’s landmark was overshadowed by his untimely injury.

What did you make of Arsenal’s 5-0 win, and how far can this team go if injuries mount up?
