Arsenal have reportedly registered a genuine interest in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, though the North London club remain hesitant to activate his £68 million release clause.
BBC Sport report that while Eze is admired at the Emirates, the Gunners have shown no willingness thus far to meet the release fee set by Palace.
The attacking midfielder is viewed as a versatile option capable of operating across the frontline, though there is internal debate at Arsenal regarding his best position — with many feeling his strongest role is as a No. 10, a position currently occupied by captain Martin Ødegaard and promising youngster Ethan Nwaneri.
Club insiders suggest Arsenal would prefer to offload a forward before making any formal approach for the 27-year-old. This likely points to the need to balance squad depth and finances before entering serious negotiations.
Despite their interest, Arsenal are understood to value Eze below the buyout clause and are keen to explore the possibility of negotiating a lower fee. Sources close to the player indicate he is open to a move to the Emirates, though it is believed he is not actively pushing to leave Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has so far shown no indication that he is willing to negotiate below the full release clause. However, there is a sense among rival clubs that his stance could soften as the transfer window progresses.
Eze, who has impressed with his creativity, dribbling, and eye for goal, continues to attract admiration across the Premier League, but any potential departure from Palace will likely come down to timing — and the willingness of all parties to compromise on valuation.
The transfer window closes on 30 August, leaving plenty of time for developments. For now, Arsenal’s interest remains exploratory — but serious.
