The Gunners have won four of their six league games so far this season, only dropping points this season against Liverpool and Manchester City.

Arsenal predicted lineup vs West Ham

Arsenal (Formation): Surnames only; separate each row of the formation using a semicolon. Right to left. Full stop at the end.

Mikel Arteta’s men go into this game unbeaten in three, winning two alongside one draw. They face a West Ham side in the second game of their new era, with Nuno Espirito Santo now having a full week to look at his squad.

But Arsenal will be wary of the Hammers. West Ham have won their past two visits to the Emirates Stadium and are looking to become just the second team to win three successive Premier League away games against Arsenal.

Arsenal team news vs West Ham

Gabriel had to come off late on in Arsenal’s Champions League win over Olympiacos in midweek due to injury. But Arteta allayed the fears after the game, saying the substitution was cautionary and Gabriel had been able to play on.

So we should see Gabriel starting at the heart of Arsenal’s defence against West Ham, alongside William Saliba. Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber should also return to the defence, having dropped out of the starting XI in midweek for rotation reasons.

Declan Rice was another to drop down to the bench in midweek, but he should return to the midfield. The formation of the midfield is a big question, with Arteta switching between a 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 in his past two games.

The 4-2-3-1 seems like it might be a one-off for now, so Rice should be joined in a midfield three by Martin Odegaard and Martin Zubimendi. That leaves one fewer spot in attack, and that should go to Eberechi Eze to form the front three alongside Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres.

So that does mean Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli drop down to the bench, with the former on a mini streak of appearances.

Arsenal remain without Noni Madueke, Piero Hincapie, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Set-piece kings

It’s no surprise that Arsenal are good at set-pieces. Nine of the Gunners’ last 14 Premier League goals have come from set-pieces, with seven of those coming from corners.

Arsenal current lead the Premier League for set-piece Expected Goals, at 4.68. Chelsea sit in second on 3.35. But perhaps more remarkable is the difference between Arsenal’s set-piece xG and their set-piece post-shot xG. That goes up to 7.48 for the Gunners, again the best in the league. So Arsenal massively improve their chances of scoring from set-pieces based on their shot placement.

The Gunners are also the best at defending set-pieces. They’ve conceded just 0.64 xG from set-pieces in the Premier League this season, the least of any side. Even though they aren’t bottom for post-shot xG conceded from set-pieces, their 1.25 is still good. And that’s more down to opponents’ finishing than Arsenal’s defending.
