Mikel Arteta admits he will likely have to do something he “hasn’t done before” when his Arsenal side take on Liverpool on Sunday.

The Gunners will be without forwards Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and possibly Leandro Trossard for the trip to Anfield, while captain Martin Odegaard is also a doubt after injuring his shoulder in last weekend’s win over Leeds.

It means Arteta may instead turn to the attacking additions made this summer in Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and, most recently, Ebere Eze, who could be in line for his Arsenal debut.

While playing an attack which has not featured together before might come with risks, Arteta says he has no qualms about doing so.

“We haven’t got Gabriel Jesus, we don’t have Kai Havertz, we don’t have Bukayo Saka,” Arteta said.

“That’s our reality, and Leandro Trossard, probably. It’s a reality of what we have and we’re going to have to find something and probably something that we haven’t done before.

“It can work really, really well.”

Asked if he trusts his new signings in such a big game, Arteta added: “Yes, I do fully trust them.”
