Chelsea have announced that Ashley Lawrence has departed the club to join French champions OL Lyonnes.
The Canadian international is leaving the Women’s Super League champions after a trophy-ridden two seasons in West London. Lawrence first signed for the Blues in 2022, and won four trophies during her two year tenure at the club. This included two WSL titles, an FA Cup, and also a Continental Cup.
In total, the defender made 60 appearances for the club, and scored three goals during this period, alongside recording eight assists.
Lawrence made her Chelsea debut in the opening match of the 2023/24 season, featuring against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. She then opened her scoring account for the Blues in emphatic fashion later that year, netting during a 6-0 league victory away to Aston Villa in November.
Throughout her debut campaign under Emma Hayes, Lawrence became an integral part of the squad, making 30 appearances across all competitions as Chelsea clinched the WSL title on the final day of the season. Under the leadership of manager Sonia Bompastor, Lawrence maintained her consistency and influence, once again recording 30 appearances across all competitions as Chelsea won a remarkable unbeaten domestic treble.
Lawrence will return to France where she previously played for Paris Saint-Germain, before signing for the West London club. However, this time, the Canadian will sign for eight-time Champions League winners Lyon.
