Nine Champions League ties took place on Wednesday to round out what has already been a goal-crazy round of action.

Here's how it all went down.

Aston Villa beat Bayern Munich in spectacular fashion

Villa Park welcomed back Champions League football with a bang as a spectacular effort from Jhon Duran ensured that they beat Bayern Munich 1-0.

It was the visitors who began the game on the front foot as they probed Unai Emery's side's defences, hosting Champions League football for the first time since 1982.

After Dayot Upamecano was lucky to escape a yellow card, he received one for a subsequent foul and from the free kick, Pau Torres turned the ball home, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.

Bayern continued to press, but were contained to long range efforts as Michael Olise forced Emi Martinez into a good save from distance, and the two sides headed into the interval level.

The second half remained largely equal, with Aston Villa proving a match for whatever the German giants threw at them. And 10 minutes from time, Jhon Duran etched himself into Villa folklore as the substitute produced an outstanding finish to lob Manuel Neuer and hand his side their first European goal since 1982, and a 1-0 lead.

They were indebted to Emi Martinez for all three points though, as the Argentine pulled out two world-class saves to keep out Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane and send Villa Park into raptures.

Salah helps Liverpool beat Bologna

Liverpool continued their strong start to the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Bologna in a game that went from end to end.

Arne Slot's side dominated the ball in the opening stages against the Italians, but were handed a scare when Dallinga poked the ball into the net inside the first 10 minutes, only for the offside flag to spare their blushes..

90 seconds later, they had the ball in the net themselves as Alexis Mac Allister bundled in a Mo Salah cross to hand them a deserved lead.

It was then their turn to have a goal ruled out as Darwin Núñez finished smartly only to be denied by the offside flag, before Szobozslai fired narrowly wide.

But they could not find a second goal and Bologna improved as the half went on, with NDoye seeing an effort rebound off the post before Alisson was forced into an excellent save as the Italians grew into the game.

They continued to improve after the interval, with efforts from Orsolini and Urbanski both causing Arne Slot into an early change as he looked to change the direction of the game.

But as Bologna wasted chances it always felt that Liverpool would make them pay, and they did just that when Mo Salah cut inside to provide a fantastic curled finish into the far corner 15 minutes from time, handing his side some breathing room.

Benfica thrash Atletico Madrid

Benfica thrashed a sorry looking Atletico Madrid 4-0 to move to maximum points from their opening games.

The hosts got off to the perfect start when they took the lead early in the first half as some hefty early pressure resulted in Kerem Aktürkoğlu finished off a flowing move with a smart finish beyond Jan Oblak.

Simeone reacted to a poor first half from his side by making three changes at half time, in addition to the forced change he was forced into as Nahuel Molina limped off after half an hour.

However, they fell further behind just seven minutes into the second half as José Gimenez brought down Pavlidis, with Angel Di Maria sending Jan Oblak the wrong way from 12 yards.

It continued to prove a happy evening for the hosts, as Alexander Bah nodding home a third from a corner, ensuring that the Portuguese side kept all three points.

And there was even time for another penalty, this time Orkun Kökçü beating Jan Oblak to add gloss to the scoreline.

Lille beat Real Madrid

Lille pulled off a shock result as they beat Real Madrid 1-0 to grab their first win of the 24/25 competition.

They welcomed the reigning champions to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, but it was an out of sorts Real Madrid they found themselves facing in the first half as Carlo Ancelotti's side struggled for any sort of rhythm.

Their sluggishness was punished on the stroke of the interval after VAR handed Lille a penalty for a handball from Eduardo Camavinga, which Jonathan David converted to hand the hosts a shock lead.

Ancelotti sent on Kylian Mbappé in a bid to pull the game back into the hands of Los Blancos, but despite a second half barrage they could not find a way past Lucas Chevalier, and were left to rue their missed chances as Lille walked away with a historic victory.

RB Leipzig lose to 10 man Juventus

Juventus came from behind twice to edge out RB Leipzig in a five goal thriller, winning 3-2 despite ending the game with 10 men.

Any hopes Juve had of grabbing the early initiative as they were forced into a pair of early changes as first Gleison Bremer and then Nicolas Gonzalez went off injured in the opening 15 minutes.

They then found themselves behind after half an hour as talented striker Benjamin Šeško lashed the ball in off the underside of the crossbar, offering a stark reminder of why he is wanted by plenty of Europe's elite clubs.

Juventus improved after the break, and after Teun Koopmeiners squandered an excellent chance, Dusan Vlahovic grabbed his first Champions League goal of the season as he got on the end of a cross from Andrea Cambiaso.

Leipzig almost hit straight back, with Lois Openda seeing his effort rebound back off the post, before disaster struck for Juventus as goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio was sent off for handling the ball outside the area.

From the resulting free kick, Leipzig were handed a penalty as a VAR check showed Weston McKennie had handled the ball, and Šeško grabbed his second of the night from the spot.

But their joy lasted just three minutes as Dusan Vlahovic matched Šeško's goal with one of his own, curling an effort home from the edge of the penalty area to restore parity for the 10-man Turin side.

And in shock fashion they took the lead just minutes from time as Francisco Conceição found the net from eight yards out, earning Juventus a unlikely looking three points on the road.

Sturm Graz lose to Club Brugge

In a battle of Champions League minnows, Sturm Graz play host to Club Brugge with neither side having managed a win in matchday one, but it was Brugge who grabbed the early advantage as Christos Tzolis found the far corner from the edge of the penalty area midway through the first half.

And Brugge were good value for their lead, dominating possession and racking up more shots than the hosts, who struggled to compete with the Belgian side.

However, neither side could find a breakthrough in the second half, ensuring that the first half strike from Tzolis took all three points for the visitors.

Monaco fight back against Zagreb

Scorers: Sucic 45+3', Baturina 65'; Salisu 74', Zakaria 90' [Pen]

A late rescue act from Monaco snatched a point against Dinamo Zagreb, who appeared on course for three points for much of the game.

Dinamo Zagreb were looking to bounce back from their 9-2 thrashing by Bayern Munich, and after they had the better of the first half the hosts took a deserved lead on the stroke of the interval as Petar Sucic produced a deft finish over the onrushing Nubel.

Despite sending on Folarin Balogun at half time, Monaco offered very little and it was the hosts who grabbed the second goal of the game as Martin Baturina, who grabbed the assist for the opener, turned scorer on the hour mark, finding the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Monaco rallied, as Mohammed Salisu rose highest from a corner to halve the deficit for the French side. And in stoppage time Zagreb hearts were broken after Balogun was fouled and Denis Zakaria sent the penalty high into the roof of the net, snatching a surprise point.

Feyenoord edge past Girona

Girona beat themselves as Feyenoord benefitted from two own goals to beat the Spanish side 3-2 in a chaotic game.

The home side dominated the opening quarter of an hour, with Feyenoord struggling to get out of their own half. And their dominance was rewarded just before the midpoint of the first half, when David Lopez smashed the ball home from close range to hand Girona a Champions League lead for the first time in their history.

But that joy was short-lived as Feyenoord found an equaliser just four minutes later as a header from Quinten Timber took a deflection off Yangel Herrera to leave Gazzaniga wrongfooted and the Dutch side level.

And a horrid ten minutes for the Spanish side saw Viktor Tsygankov forced off with an injury just before the half hour mark, before Feyenoord completed a surprise turnaround as Antoni Milambo rifled home from inside the penalty area.

It could have been worse as Feyenoord raced through the gears, with Ivan Martin conceding a penalty only for goalkeeper Gazzaniga to come to his teammates rescue and keep out Ayase Ueda's spot kick, keeping the score at 2-1 heading into the break.

Girona improved after the interval, and were handed a golden opportunity to equalise when they got a penalty of their own, only for Timon  Wellenreuther to keep out Bojan Miovski's effort from 12 yards.

But the goal was coming, and it duly arrived through former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, who tapped home after some fine work on the left from Arnaut Danjuma.

Just as in the first half though, they rapidly threw it away again through another own goal, their third of the tournament, as Ladislav Krejci turned past his own goalkeeper in yet another twist in Spain.

Atalanta ease past Shakhtar Donetsk

In the other early kick off, Atalanta eased past Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in Germany thanks to goals either side of half time.

After a bright opening minute from the Ukrainian side, Atalanta began to dominate and were rewarded after 21 minutes when veteran defender Berat Djimsiti, who was found after a short-corner routine and steadied himself before prodding the Bergamo outfit into the lead.

Chance after chance came and went for the visitors to extend their advantage, but just a minute before the half time break they finally doubled their lead as Ademola Lookman fired a low effort beyond Riznyk after good work from Sead Kolasinac on the left flank.

Shakhtar registered their first effort of the game immediately after the break, but were sucker punched on the counter attack as Raoul Bellanova nodded home a third for Atalanta just minutes into the second half to effectively end the game as a contest.

Though Shakhtar were better in the second half, they never really threatened to get back into the game, with the Ukranians not managing a single shot on target across the whole evening, leaving Atalanta to stroll to a comfortable three points to continue their unbeaten start to the Champions League.
