Aston Villa are the favourites to win the transfer race for Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The 22-year-old is expected to leave Anfield after struggling to break into the team last season. He was limited to 18 Premier League appearances, including 16 as a substitute.
Elliott recently admitted he doesn’t want to be ‘wasting years’ in his career and will weigh up whether to stay with Liverpool this summer.
His situation has reportedly alerted Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are all keen on signing him.
But Villa are pushing to sign the attacking midfielder in a £30 million deal, plus add-ons.
Unai Emery’s side missed out on Champions League qualification after losing 2-0 to Manchester United on the final day of the season.
But that hasn’t deterred the Villa boss from trying to sign high-profile players, and Elliott would be a decent acquisition for them.
Elliott mainly plays as an attacking midfielder, but has also been deployed on the right wing and in central midfield. He is renowned for his strong work ethic, creativity and passing ability.
He will want reassurances that he will be a first-team regular, which may scupper Villa’s chances of signing him.
