Aston Villa manager Unai Emery says PSG ‘the best team in the world’ | OneFootball

Two of Unai Emery’s former teams meet in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday night. Emery managed Paris Saint-Germain between 2016 and 2018 and Arsenal from 2018 and 2019. The former, the Spaniard believes, are now the best team in the world.

PSG are the reigning European champions and go into the UCL final, which will take place in Budapest, as the favourites. Emery was full of praise for his compatriot, Mikel Arteta, for the work that he has done since taking the helm at the Emirates Stadium. “Arsenal are progressing more and more […] this year has been their best performance. To compete in the Champions League and the Premier League, as they have done, is very difficult,” began Emery in an interview with L’Équipe.

He added, “The Premier League is the most difficult league in the world. There are the best managers, the best teams, the best players… so winning the league title and managing at the same time to get to the Champions League final is really good. Arsenal and PSG have shown that they are the two best teams in the world this year.” 

However, for the Aston Villa manager, who will once again get a taste for UCL football next season, one of his former sides is in better shape than the other. “Today, they are the best club in the world, the best team, the one that produces the best collective performance, with the best manager (Luis Enrique), even if, of course, there are lots of other great managers.”

On Luis Enrique, who has led PSG to back-to-back Champions League finals, Emery added, “Luis Enrique has done an excellent job. His ability to create sympathy is fantastic. He has a lot of personality. He has completely transformed PSG. It is always incredible to watch them play.”
