According to ExpressAndStar.com, Aston Villa are monitoring Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro amid uncertainty over Emi Martinez’s future.
The 31-year-old, capped twice by Spain, is among the options should Martinez depart. He has made more than 300 appearances in seven years at Sociedad and would be available for a relatively low fee.
Japan international Zion Suzuki has also been tracked, while Villa remain admirers of Manchester City’s James Trafford. Newcastle want Trafford, who nearly joined the Magpies last summer before moving to City from Burnley.
Martinez has been heavily linked with Juventus and personal terms are said to be in place. Any sale would still depend on the Italians matching Villa’s valuation.
Unai Emery’s priority this summer is to strengthen in attack, with a striker and two wide players targeted, plus a right-back. Recruitment plans remain constrained by UEFA financial fair play.
Villa were fined £9.5million last summer for a previous breach and entered a three-year settlement agreement with the governing body.
