Aston Villa are sniffing around West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville. Reports from Italy and the Netherlands have suddenly dropped the Villans right into the middle of a massive summer transfer scramble.
According to Sport Mediaset, as relayed by transfer feed, Unai Emery is ready to cause problems for Manchester United, who have been trailing the 24-year-old. Voetbalprimeur.nl backed this up, stating Villa are among the most attentive clubs keeping tabs on the Dutch wide man.
Summerville isn’t rushing. He turns 25 later this year and is currently clearing his head in Miami, prepping for the season ahead. He wants to sit down with his representatives only after he gets back.
Things are moving fast behind the scenes. Roma are lurking, and Manchester United’s interest hinges heavily on whether Marcus Rashford packs his bags. West Ham know they hold the cards here, slap a heavy £50m valuation on their asset, and that massive fee changes the entire equation.
Let us look at the bare facts from the recent Premier League campaign. Five goals and two assists from 31 appearances. He played 2,483 top-flight minutes for the Hammers, which represents a decent return, but it hardly sets the world alight.
His total output across all competitions reaches seven goals and two assists from twenty-seven starts. Sofascore gave him a 7.14 rating. Digging into the underlying data, Summerville completes 47.2% of his take-ons, takes 1.89 shots per game, and hit a non-penalty expected goals figure of 6.97. That puts him in the top seventy-ninth percentile for Premier League attackers.
Then the World Cup happened. Everything changed.
Summerville looked reborn in a Netherlands shirt, netting twice during the tournament. The standout moment was a sublime, technically perfect finish against Japan, where he chopped inside and bent a gorgeous effort into the far corner. Confidence does funny things to a player. That brief, sparkling cameo encouraged West Ham to push their financial demands even higher, forcing interested suitors to look at around £42-43m just to get a conversation started.

Emery has a massive headache out wide, so the link makes sense on paper. Jadon Sancho went back to Old Trafford after his loan spell ended, Leon Bailey’s long-term role looks incredibly uncertain, and Villa desperately need a direct injection of pace. Summerville loves to run at his man. That directness makes him a good option for a high-press system, and his recent international form gives the recruitment team plenty of food for thought.
But £42m is serious money. Five goals in 31 league outings means he scores at a rate of 0.18 per ninety minutes, which feels incredibly skinny for that kind of outlay. He completes 50.5% of his duels and loves to carry the ball, but you have to question the final product.
If the club are going to break the bank, other options exist. Roony Bardghji is 20, brings immense long-term benefits, and is firmly on the radar, even if the teenager needs time to develop. Summerville is excellent on his day, but paying £50m for seven total goal involvements is a massive gamble.
Villa have fires to put out elsewhere. The midfield is light after Amadou Onana picked up a nasty injury at the World Cup, and Youri Tielemans has already departed for Old Trafford. Spending the bulk of the remaining budget on a winger when the engine room needs major surgery feels reckless, especially with Paris Saint-Germain capable of easily outbidding them in a straight financial fight.
