ASU2025: Argentina claim 95 medals, finish fifth in the table
The Argentine delegation, composed of 338 athletes (172 men and 166 women), obtained 95 medals - 27 gold, 38 silver, and 30 bronze - and finished fifth in the medal count of the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay. Review the main achievements and the list with each podium.
Cycling brought the first joys to the delegation in ASU2025 with the silver medal of Julia Benedetti Venturella and the bronze of Delfina Dibella Latorre, both in the individual time trial discipline. In addition, cycling gave the delegation two gold medals: Santiago Gruñeiro, in men's omnium track cycling, and Julieta Benedetti in the road race. And also a bronze from the hand of Octavio Salomón.

Agostina Hein broke it in the swimming events and closed her participation by contributing eight medals to Argentina! And achieved three of the 27 gold medals accumulated by the delegation. The native of Campana fulfilled all the expectations that were on her: first, she imposed herself in the 400m freestyle and added the victory in the 400m medley and in the 200m medley.
In addition, the Viking, who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at just 16 years old, was part of the women's 4×100 freestyle relay team that won the bronze medal along with Magdalena Portela Walter, Lucía Gauna, and Malena Santillán. She added the silver medal in the 4×100 combined women's relay along with Cecilia Diekele, Catalina Acacio, and Gauna.
As if all that were not enough, she also contributed to the mixed events to win the silver medal in the 4×100 freestyle relay along with Gauna, Matías Chaillou, and Matías Santiso. In the 4×100 combined, she won silver with Gauna, Ulises Saravia Peláez, and Dante Nicola Rho.
Ulises Saravia gave another gold to Argentina, in the final of the 100 meters backstroke men's event, with a time of 53.89 (Pan American junior record) and also achieved the classification to the 2027 Pan American Games.
Malena Santillán, meanwhile, also added a gold medal in the 200 meters backstroke that even came with a South American record of 2:10.36, thus surpassing the previous mark of the Brazilian Fernanda de Goeij of 2:11.95 in 2019.
Another of the Argentine gold medals in Asunción came from Ignacio Espínola, who won in the 58-kilogram category in taekwondo, while tennis players Sol Larraya and Candela Vázquez won the women's doubles and the men's doubles also went to Argentina thanks to Ian Vertberger and Dante Pagani.
Team sports also brought joy to the Argentine delegation: Rugby 7, the men's 3×3 basketball team, and field hockey both men and women added more gold medals.
On the other hand, Aramís Sánchez gave the national delegation its 17th gold medal. He did it in Canoeing, in the C1 1000m Men's event, with a time of 4:17.18. The podium was completed by Mateus Nunes from Brazil, who took the silver, and José Gil from Mexico, who won the bronze. In the same discipline, but in K1 200m Women's, Paulina Barreiro took the first place with a time of 45.71.
As for water skiing, Francisco Giorgis gave the Argentine team another gold medal by winning the men's jump competition. With a score of 54.6, he led the podium above the American Jake Abelson and the Canadian Jacob Chambers. Meanwhile, Tomás Olivera won in the hammer throw with an attempt of 70.61 meters - Pan American junior record - and the delegation reached its twentieth gold medal in the competition.
The Friday session started in a great way for Argentina, which added two more gold medals in speed canoeing. In the K4 500m category, the Argentine male and female representatives were the fastest and climbed to the top of the podium. Then, Federico Capello was crowned champion in BMX and achieved the classification to Lima 2027.
This Saturday, the joys were renewed from early on with a new gold medal from Vicente Vergauven and Baltazar Itria in Canoeing, K2 500M men's category.
