According to Football Italia, Atalanta have rejected an initial bid from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, understood to be around €34m (£30m), for Italy U21 defender Honest Ahanor.
Atalanta are said to value the 18-year-old at €40m to €45m.
Ahanor joined Atalanta from Genoa last summer in a €20m deal, making him the second-most expensive Italian 17-year-old after Pietro Pellegri’s 2018 move to Monaco from Genoa.
He made 22 Serie A appearances this season, starting 15, with a further nine in the Champions League and four in the Coppa Italia.
Left-sided by trade, he has mainly featured on the left of a back three. He can also play centre-back or left-back in a back four and has occasionally filled in at wing-back.
Earlier this month he won his first senior Italy caps under interim head coach Silvio Baldini, who took a squad largely drawn from his U21 group for friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.
