Atalanta are close to signing Giacomo Raspadori from Atletico Madrid for up to €23 million, according to Sky Italia.
La Dea gave accelerated negotiations with Atletico and made a straight cash offer rather than the loan‑plus‑option formulas proposed by rival suitors.
Atletico are keen to recoup the bulk of the money they invested in signing Raspadori from Napoli after an underwhelming spell for the striker.
Raspadori’s impending move to Atalanta represents a major blow to Roma and Napoli, both of whom had worked for weeks on different solutions to bring the Italy international back to Serie A.
Roma had been in advanced talks over a paid loan with an option or conditional obligation to buy, while Napoli explored a return that would have spread costs over time.
The player, eager for continuity and a central role after limited opportunities in Spain, has been attracted by the prospect of being a key figure in Bergamo rather than on the periphery.
Capable of playing multiple roles in attack, Raspadori offers a variety of options to an Atalanta team currently in the ascendancy.
After a rough start to the campaign, Raffaele Palladino’s men have been on an upward trajectory of late, with six wins from their last seven matches across all competitions.
They have a chance to continue their impressive run against Pisa on Friday.
