Athletic Club secure Gurtubay until 2029 | OneFootball

Athletic Club have agreed a new contract with Elene Gurtubay until 2029, the club said in a statement. The Bilbao-born midfielder, born in 2007, made her first-team debut in December and is fresh from winning the European Under-19 title with Spain, La Rojita, for the second year running.

Formed at CD San Inazio, she arrived at Lezama in the summer of 2024 from Bizkerre FT to join the B team.

In her first season she played 26 matches and scored five for the B, earning a promotion to Javier Lerga’s senior side. Lerga already knew her from La Rojita, with whom she first became European Under-19 champion in 2025.

Since her December debut she has featured in 21 official games and scored once for Athletic. She also helped Athletic Femenino B secure promotion to Primera Federación, playing eight times and scoring two.

The agreement was formalised at the Palacio de Ibaigane in the presence of president Jon Uriarte and women’s football director Xabier Arrieta. Gurtubay said the extension is a step forward, expressed gratitude for the club’s faith and added she is proud to represent Athletic and wear its shirt.
