Athletic congratulate Barcelona on La Liga crown with Catalan message

Barcelona were crowned La Liga champions last night after a 2-0 win over Real Madrid at Camp Nou, and Athletic quickly sent their congratulations.

The club said in a post that "Felicitats, FCBarcelona, por el título de LaLiga", alongside a handshake emoji.

The gesture signalled full sportsmanship despite relations between the clubs not being at their best, particularly after Barcelona’s attempts to sign Nico Williams.

Barcelona’s league campaign has been immaculate, with only four defeats and one draw. They lost away to Real Madrid at the Bernabéu, Sevilla at the Pizjuán, Real Sociedad at Anoeta, and Girona at Motilivi, and drew at Vallecas.

Athletic were beaten in both meetings with Barcelona, 4-0 in Barcelona and 0-1 at San Mamés.
