Athletic revive 1970-75 look with retro kit for Villarreal visit | OneFootball

Athletic will mark LaLiga’s league-wide Retro matchday with a kit inspired by 1970 to 1975, honouring a pivotal chapter in the club’s history.

As reported by as.com, the Castore-designed strip revives the era’s look, a red and white shirt with a closed collar, black shorts and socks with horizontal red and white stripes. It will be worn against Villarreal at San Mamés on matchday 31, the weekend of 12 April.

The tribute reflects a modernising phase that shaped later decades, including the restoration of the club’s original name, the construction and opening of the Lezama facilities, and a firm defence of its philosophy despite the transfer market opening to foreign players.

That period also brought the 1973 Copa, secured against Castellón at the Vicente Calderón.

The squad featured club greats Iribar, Txetxu Rojo, Carlos Ruiz, Uriarte, Iñaki Sáez, Aranguren, Ángel María Villar, Antón Arieta and Guisasola.

AC Museoa holds the shirts worn in that final by Iñaki Sáez and Rojo II. The retro shirt is priced at 90 euros.
