Simon Johnson of The Athletic is reporting just now that Harvey Vale “is travelling for a medical ahead of a permanent move to Queens Park Rangers.” Well, it won’t be a long journey, that’s for sure…
The move has been rumoured for a few days, with the papers reporting yesterday that Chelsea were in “advanced talks” with their West London neighbours over a move for the academy product.
Vale is out of contract at the end of this season, so Chelsea are not asking for a transfer fee. Instead they have secured a sell on fee, with “add-ons also included.” Johnson reports that Vale will sign a deal until 2028, with a club option to extend that for another year.
Without any specific insight, we’d imagine those add-ons are for the eventuality where Vale stays a long time at QPR, and so will be set with quite high goal and/or appearance targets. That gives Chelsea some payoff if he stays, while the sell on clause covers them if he goes sooner.

Vale should really have moved in the summer. After a good loan in League One last season there was plenty of interest, and he even turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League in August. But in the end a suitable destination wasn’t found and he’s wasted 6 months back in the Development Squad which he outgrew years ago.
QPR should be a great move for him and they’re doing well in the Championship right now. We hope for the best for Harvey – he’s certainly got the potential to be back in the Premier League before too long. He’s talented and versatile and just needs to catch up with his peers in terms of senior experience.
