Atletico Madrid winger rules out possibility of playing for Real Madrid: ‘Absolutely no chance’ | OneFootball

Atletico Madrid winger Giuliano Simeone, son of manager Diego Simeone, was recently asked whether he could ever see himself playing for Real Madrid. 

Given the history between the two clubs and his deep-rooted connection to Atletico, it was always going to be a revealing question.

When the question was put to him, the 23-year-old’s response was strong and immediate. There was no hesitation, no attempt to soften his voice.

 “No way. There’s absolutely no chance,” he said, according to AS.

An Atletico Madrid youth product, Giuliano has been with the Rojiblancos since 2019, and given his father’s history, it does not really come as any surprise that he has discarded the question.

Whether or not there is a link between the player and Real Madrid is certainly out of question, as this answer is more about loyalty than anything.

For what it is worth, though, any Real Madrid player would react the same as the Argentine winger.

There are examples

However, that does not mean there has been an absolute bad blood between Real Madrid and Atletico in terms of player transfers.

The most recent example is of Marcus Llorente. 

The Madrid-born midfielder joined Real Madrid’s youth setup at the age of 13, but in 2019, he decided to move to Atletico Madrid after knowing that first-team opportunities would be hard to come by.

Furthermore, players such as Alvaro Morata, Sergio Reguilon, Thibaut Courtois, Bernd Schuster and Jose Antonio Reyes have all played for both teams.

In a sport like football, where transfers between rivals are rare but not impossible, it is common to hear statements like Giuliano‘s, and there is no offence to take.
