Atlético Madrid closing on €45m deal for Premier League star | OneFootball

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are inching closer to a full agreement for a member of the midfield ranks at Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The player in question? João Gomes.

Midfielder Gomes is for his part in the midst of another solid individual campaign in England.

Despite the collective struggles of the already relegated Wolves, the Brazilian international has continued to perform at a high level, across 39 appearances in all competitions.

A whole host of clubs from across the continent have in turn been lying in wait, ready to take advantage of Wolves’ return to The Championship through offers for Gomes.

And as alluded to above, looking all set to beat out the competition to the 24-year-old’s signature are Spanish heavyweights Atlético Madrid.

As per a report from market insider Ben Jacobs:

‘Atletico Madrid now close to a deal for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. Parties, via intermediaries, are in advanced talks and are nearing a verbal agreement worth around €45m.’
