Atlético Madrid are ready to point towards the fee paid by Barcelona for Antoine Griezmann in transfer talks over Julián Alvarez this summer.
This comes amid the assurance that the Rojiblancos will not allow their star frontman to depart without a fight.
The name of Argentine international Alvarez has of course reemerged as the dominant one in the media chatter in Spain’s capital across the day to date.
After tying up an agreement for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, the aforementioned Barcelona are understood to be readying another big-money bid, on this occasion for Alvarez.
If the latest word doing the rounds on Thursday is anything to go by, though, then the Blaugrana’s opening offer looks highly likely to be knocked back.
As per a report from journalist Ben Jacobs, Atlético Madrid are ready to demand a sum well in excess of the €120 million they received from their La Liga rivals for Antoine Griezmann back in 2019.
Barca, on the other hand, view €100 million as an appropriate starting point for negotiations.
