Hertha BSC’s super-talented midfielder Kennet Eichhorn is very popular with FC Bayern, but the Munich club is now facing stiff competition from Liverpool FC
The poker for Kennet Eichhorn continues to gain momentum. The midfield talent from Hertha BSC has been on FC Bayern’s radar for some time, but now the Munich club is facing top-class competition from England.
In addition to the German record champions and Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool FC are now also keeping a close eye on the 16-year-old, threatening Bayern with a real transfer battle for one of the most exciting talents in German soccer.
As Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg reports, the Reds have now entered the race for Eichhorn. According to the report, talks are already underway between Liverpool and the Hertha youngster. English sources are also said to confirm this information.
For FC Bayern, the Liverpool inquiry is a clear warning signal. In sporting and financial terms, the English top club is one of the most attractive addresses in Europe. Nevertheless, the Reds‘ involvement is unlikely to completely change the transfer poker, at least in terms of the transfer fee.
The reason: Eichhorn has a release clause, which is said to be in the region of ten to twelve million euros. This would clearly define the financial hurdle for interested clubs.
The decisive factor is therefore less likely to be the transfer fee, but rather the overall package. For Eichhorn and those close to him, the main question will be which club can offer him the best sporting prospects.
FC Bayern have been keeping a very close eye on the youngster for some time now, and it is no longer a secret that the Munich club is interested in him in principle. Director of Sport Max Eberl has also recently been remarkably open about Eichhorn.
„I think if you see Kenny Eichhorn – and FC Bayern wouldn’t bother with it – then we wouldn’t be doing our job,“ Eberl made clear, confirming that the record champions have long had the 16-year-old on their radar.
At the same time, the Bayern boss made it clear that a transfer is far from a done deal. „Now we have to see if it fits in and what he and his management have in mind. Whether it then happens is something completely different,“ explained the 52-year-old.
It remains to be seen how concrete FC Bayern will actually be in the end, but one thing is clear: Eichhorn basically fits the requirement profile of Munich, who have repeatedly tried to tie top talents to the club at an early stage in recent years.
For the youngster himself, the focus is likely to be on his sporting development. At his age, regular playing minutes and a clear development plan are crucial. A move to a top international club can be attractive, but also carries the risk of initially only taking on a supporting role in sporting terms.
At FC Bayern, Eichhorn could benefit from Vincent Kompany’s perspective. The Belgian has already shown that he can certainly give young players playing time if they impress in training and fit into the system. That could be an important argument for Munich in their bid to recruit Eichhorn.
