August Priske scored in Birmingham's 1-0 pre-season win over Burton Albion
Birmingham City will be aiming to be in the mix for promotion to the Premier League next season under Chris Davies.
The 41-year-old oversaw a 10th place finish in the club’s first year back in the Championship in 2025/26, with the team coming nine points adrift of the top six.
But the play-offs are expanding to include two more teams from the next campaign, giving the Blues a boost in their hopes of a return to the top flight.
Birmingham’s owners Knighthead Capital have invested heavily in the first team squad in recent transfer markets, and we could see more of the same between now and the 1 September deadline.
The Midlands outfit have signed James Beadle on loan again for next season, along with Dael Fry joining as a free agent.
And Jhon Solis’ loan has become a permanent signing, with further additions likely in the remaining weeks of the window.

August Priske scored the only goal in Birmingham’s 1-0 win against Burton Albion, as Davies’ side continued their preparations for the upcoming season.
The forward posted a message to teammate Carlos Vicente, who assisted his 29th minute strike in the pre-season friendly on Wednesday evening.
“Gracias, Carlos Vicente,” wrote Priske on his Instagram stories.
Priske joined Birmingham in the January transfer window earlier this year, signing from Djurgardens IF.
The Dane contributed one goal and one assist from 17 appearances in the Championship, starting on nine occasions.
The forward will be hoping for better things next season with the help of having a pre-season with the Blues under his belt, and his short-range strike against Burton certainly bodes well for how his preparation is going.
Birmingham fans are getting excited for the new season, and for what Priske can do in the team following his strike against Burton.
Solis has also earned credit for his role in the goal, with his pass putting Vicente through on goal to set up Priske.
Pre-season is the time of the year when fans let their imaginations run wild, and some have even reacted by predicting the Dane to score 30 goals next season.
Priske has now scored three goals this pre-season, with Birmingham’s Championship campaign getting underway on 15 August with a clash against Sheffield United.

Birmingham had a strong first year back in the Championship, even if the owners had the ambition to win promotion straight away.
That was always going to be an unrealistic target, even with their high level of investment, but they can go into this season feeling like they can be in the top eight mix.
If Priske can go from strength to strength off the back of a solid pre-season, then he could be a big difference-maker in the upcoming season.
But it is still far too early to say whether or not he can fire Birmingham to promotion, even with some good showings in pre-season.
