Aurore Bergé, France’s minister for the fight against discrimination, has condemned banners displayed by PSG supporters during Le Classique and discriminatory chants at the Parc des Princes.
On Sunday night, supporters unfurled several messages. One tifo mimicked delivery firm DPD’s branding with the line “les Marseillais c'est des livreurs”. The company issued a statement in response.
The match, won 5-0 by PSG, was halted for a few minutes shortly before the end because of chants deemed discriminatory. A stadium announcement warned that play could be suspended if they continued.
“We must stop treating homophobic insults, potentially seen by millions of viewers and chanted in a stadium, as folklore,” she said on Sud Radio.
Bergé added that insults, whether homophobic, racist or antisemitic, have no place anywhere, and said it is for the clubs and the LFP to take measures.
