Australia have confirmed their final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Tony Popovic opting for a youthful group packed with fresh faces alongside several experienced internationals.
The Socceroos will be making their sixth consecutive World Cup appearance and travel to North America hoping to build on their impressive run to the Round of 16 in Qatar four years ago. Seventeen members of the squad are set to feature at the tournament for the first time, highlighting the beginning of a new era for Australian football.
Among the most notable selections are uncapped duo Cristian Volpato and Tete Yengi. Volpato, who previously represented Italy at youth level, recently completed his switch of international allegiance and could make his senior debut during the competition. Yengi has also earned a place after impressing at club level.
Despite the influx of young talent, Australia still possess plenty of tournament experience. Captain Mat Ryan and veteran forward Mathew Leckie are both in line for their fourth World Cup appearance, equalling the national record. Aziz Behich, Milos Degenek and Jackson Irvine are also preparing for a third World Cup campaign.
Australia have been drawn in Group D alongside Türkiye, Paraguay and co-hosts the United States. The Socceroos begin their campaign against Türkiye in Vancouver as they look to make another deep run on football's biggest stage.
