Yasin Ayari will miss Brighton’s meeting with Crystal Palace at the Amex because of a shoulder injury.

According to WeAreBrighton.com, head coach Fabian Hurzeler said on Thursday: “After the foul he suffered against Everton, he had a small shoulder issue. It is nothing big but for this game, he will be out.”

Ayari was seen in a sling after the 1-1 draw with Everton, prompting some supporters to wonder if the problem was linked to Matt O’Riley’s recall from his Marseille loan.

Cover options include Pascal Gross with Carlos Baleba and Georginio Rutter as a number 10. Diego Gomez, absent against Everton with a minor knock, is available and appears the likeliest alternative. It would be a surprise to see O’Riley start after limited minutes in Marseille.

Milner could feature, and if he plays he will draw level with Gareth Barry’s Premier League record on 653 appearances. He came on against Fulham and Everton, after which there were goals in the 91st and 97th minutes.

Elsewhere, Mats Wieffer remains out with a toe issue, with Hurzeler saying he is edging closer to a return. Jack Hinshelwood will be assessed after illness and could be another option if fit. Teenager Harry Howell is set to be in the squad again after loans for Brajan Gruda to RD Leipzig and Tom Watson to Millwall left Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma as the only fit senior wingers.
