Real Sociedad supporters with Extremaduran roots are turning Badajoz and La Serena into a base for their trip to Sevilla for the Copa del Rey final against Atlético. According to Diario Vasco, hundreds will break the near 800 km journey by returning to their family villages en route.
A social media idea has snowballed into four coaches organised by club member Aitor Zubeldia, drawing more than 200 travellers. The route includes stops in Quintana de la Serena, Campanario, Valle de la Serena and Monesterio.
For many, it mirrors summer returns to the villages their families left, with some driving down to overnight in Valle before car sharing to Sevilla. Meet-ups are planned, from evening drinks and breakfast gatherings in Valle to a rendezvous at La Cañada in Quintana.
Cost matters too, with coach fares kept under 20 euros and rooms far cheaper than in Sevilla, which is already gearing up for feria. Some, like Aitor, are keen to see a greener Extremadura in April rather than the parched August they know.
Not everyone has a ticket. Yolanda’s group will head for the fan zone, and Zubeldia reckons roughly 30% are in the same position, while hoping for a friendly atmosphere with Atlético fans.
The trip helps erase frustration from the last final, watched from the sofa despite the Basque derby win. Zubeldia recalls visits to Manchester last year and to Vigo when La Real were runners-up over two decades ago, and fancies a 1-2 while insisting the memories matter most.
