Flamengo president Bap said he will go to court if Marcos Lamacchia, the stepson of Palmeiras president Leila Pereira, buys Vasco’s SAF.
“The issue is not that he is Leila’s stepson, although the law says a stepson is a family relation and cannot. The issue is being married to your wife and wanting to marry another. Under the civil code, you need to separate from the first one,” Bap said, speaking to Charla Podcast.
“You cannot have one foot in each club. He remains family. She should leave the club she is in now and join tomorrow, or wait for the term to end and in October next year join Vasco. You cannot have a foot in two canoes, it is against the law.”
Lamacchia, son of José Roberto Lamacchia and therefore Pereira’s stepson, has been in talks for months over a takeover. He has indicated an intention to invest R$ 2 billion for 90% of the shares, with negotiations ongoing.
Flamengo and Palmeiras have become dominant forces in Brazil in recent years, meeting in major finals. Last season Flamengo got the better of their rivals in both the Libertadores and the Brasileirão.
The clubs have also clashed off the pitch over broadcast income, matchday takings and player recruitment.
Flamengo’s squad are on holiday and will report back on 19 June at Ninho do Urubu. They will then hold a mid-season camp in Portugal.
