Palmeiras signing Alexander Barboza has been suspended by the STJD for a red card received while at Botafogo, casting doubt on his debut for the club.

According to Nosso Palestra, the centre-back was sent off on 14 March 2026 against Flamengo for halting a clear goalscoring chance by holding Pedro, then protesting to referee Anderson Daronco.

He had to be restrained by team-mates after the dismissal and, during the interval, again moved towards the officials and directed insults.

Barboza was judged on Friday 12 and handed a two-match ban, with one game already served. The decision is open to appeal.

If the punishment stands, he will miss Palmeiras’ match against Coritiba in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Signed a few weeks ago, he can feature only after the World Cup and once his suspension has been completed.
