Over the past week, FC Barcelona starlet Alvaro Cortes has found himself in the first-team dynamics under manager Hansi Flick.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who happens to the current captain of Barça Atletic, has been training with the senior team following the injuries to Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.
He was also called up to the matchday squad for two games – against Athletic Club and Newcastle United.
Now, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, Alvaro Cortes is just ‘one step away’ from signing a new contract with Barcelona.
Cortes’ current contract with the Blaugrana expires in 2027, meaning he would be entering the final year of his deal at the end of the season.

Considering his performances with the reserve team and the fact that he has now entered the first-team dynamics, Barça are making moves to tie him down to a new contract.
As previously reported, Cortes, who was attracting significant interest during the January transfer window, had been seeking guarantees over first-team opportunities at Barcelona before committing to a new deal.
The Catalans, for their part, have always had maximum confidence in his potential and have been working on an extension for a while now.
And, as per Moretto, an agreement seems to be on the horizon, which will see Cortes commit to Barcelona beyond 2027.
This development comes amidst speculation that the 20-year-old left-footed centre-back could make his first-team debut tomorrow against Sevilla.
All in all, things are starting to look up for Cortes at Barcelona.
